a summer recap

The past few weeks have been busy around here. As the summer winds down, I always find myself wanting to take a look back at everything that happened! A little bit of a Time Hop! So I’ve gone through my Instagram feed and found some of my favorite moments of the summer to share with you! Here they are :

Summer Recap Instagram Collage | Arranged On Essen

01. This summer, we made it to the Farmer’s market in Minneapolis a few times earlier on in the season – it’s always my goal to make it there at least every other weekend. That of course never happens, but one year I promise it will. I love all the fresh produce + flowers they have available – and don’t even get me started on the fresh squeezed lemonade!

02. I had the opportunity to work as an intern with Munster Rose this summer, and let me tell you – it’s the best opportunity ever. Everything smells and looks sooooo pretty, and also it was such a great way to gain experience. #Networking. These are some of the flowers I got to take home that were leftovers from a wedding earlier in the season – peonies are my f-a-v-o-r-i-t-e.

03. If you’re from Minnesota, you know about Lake Harriet during the summertime. One of my favorite things to do on a Saturday afternoon is head over to the Linden Hills neighborhood of Minneapolis and take a walk around Lake Harriet. You get the perfect view of the skyline and all the hustle and bustle of people biking + walking + running around the lake … not to mention all the cute dogs!

04. A lot of this summer has been spent exploring Minneapolis and I can’t tell you how much I love this place. I feel like I’m finally at the age where I am getting a grip on the cities and knowing where things are and how to get to + from place to place.

05. Since I’m just getting started with the event planning business, I’m not quite in full swing yet for wedding season summers. Until then, I’m a nanny! This summer with the littles I nanny was so much fun. Days spent by the pool + parks were definitely the highlights. We had the perfect summer weather for it, too – not too hot and not too cold … juuuust right!

06. Another highlight of this summer was spending time with my little sister, Lindsay. We <3 chipotle, and could probably eat there every day. Any day that I had off from work, we hung out and would run errands together or go bug our mom at her office. She's at art school now + loooooving it, which is great 'cause it's so perfect for her! 07. The weekend after Breanna + Michael got married, we all took a trip south a couple hours to Welch Mill and went tubing down the Canon River for a couple hours, we were unplugged and it was so awesome to just spend a couple hours enjoying each other’s company and a few driiinks!

08. The last one is from just last weekend when I met my mom + sister at Zumbro Cafe to grab a bite to eat. That place has suuuuch good food! I always stick with the eggs benedict, but my sister always gets the BLT mac n cheese and I have to steal a couple bites.

Michael + Breanna’s Barn Wedding

1

Michael and Breanna‘s wedding day was such a warm and inviting one at Coop’s Event Barn. I’m talking all aspects of the day here – before the ceremony even started close family and friends were gathered to help set up and get ready. During the ceremony you could feel the emotion throughout M + B and every guest there. And the entire evening following the ceremony was centered around family and fun with lawn games, board games, and yummy food! I’ve known Breanna my whole life and was so honored to be her maid of honor because even though we’re cousins, I also consider her to be my best friend. Working with Breanna on all the little details leading up to their big day, we had a ton of fun crafting and shopping and of course, eating. I’m so happy to be able to share a little peak into this magical day because seriously you guys, it was perfect. Congrats again Michael + Breanna!

camping

This past weekend my family + 2 dogs all packed up ( a couple times, packing can be a big puzzle! ) and headed up north Minnesota a couple hours to Charles A. Lindbergh State Park and roughed it through some humid + rainy weather. Our last night there was a rain storm that hit our tent pretty hard and we wound up leaving the tent there … in the dumpster. Even though the weather gave us a run for our money, the rest of the trip was a success! The food part of any event, really is always the highlight of any family gathering. We stuffed our faces with camping potatoes, chicken over the fire, hot dogs + brats, and of course PUDGIE PIES. For those of you who haven’t experienced the wonder of pudgie pies before – I feel for ya, cause they’re amazing. I mean, who wouldn’t drool over a pizza pocket that you cook over the fire? I’ll take three more, please.

Anyway, I promised myself that I was going to take lots of pictures to share on here … but with the rain and the mosquito swarms, I only ended up grabbing a few #SorryAboutIt. Here’s what I got, and I promise I’ll have more in any future camping trips!

I can’t believe it has been two and a half weeks already since Michael & Breanna got hitched! I’ll have more details & pictures later on, but for now here’s a little peek at what I grabbed from my Instagram from the weekend :

MBmerry Instagram Collage | Arranged on Essen

01. The blue and antique gold goblets that were used as candle votives down the long family-style tables mixed with leafy-green garlands.

02. These doors! I can’t even begin to tell you how much time and effort was put into building and transporting and re-building these doors! But I’m so thankful that they were able to make an appearance because the ceremony would not have been as cozy and welcoming without them.

03. Since Breanna is a graphic designer, there were lots of things she was able to design herself. The menus for dinner added a touch of originality – and with different sprigs on each plate, this dinner scene was definitely a sight to see!

04. Coop’s Event Barn. More will be said about this later I’m sure! But this place! I can’t imagine a better venue to work with! Fingers crossed I’ll be back here again.

More memories from this night can be found on Instagram with the hashtag #MBmerry!

I’m so happy to finally be here writing my first ever blog post! This is the beginning of a journey that I’m hoping will be life changing. I’m Hailey, the face behind Arranged on Essen. I’m an event designer and coordinator from the greatest place on earth : Minneapolis, Minnesota. I’ve had a passion for organization and re-arranging furniture since I was little. I was the weird kid who would have more fun cleaning up and decorating the toy room at friends’ houses than actually playing with the toys. Growing up & all throughout high school, I had a ritual of re-organizing all the furniture in my room on a monthly basis – stretching my creativity and challenging myself to come up with a combination that I hadn’t used yet. Since sixth grade, I remember always wanting to be a graphic designer and thinking that I had my career path paved for me … until I actually got to college and realized that I was headed in the wrong direction and that what I was meant to do was sitting right in front of me the whole time. DUH. Once it clicked in my head that I shouldn’t be a graphic designer and instead should be an event designer and coordinator I was so relieved. This changed my whole college outlook – I actually ended up transferring schools and switching my major a couple times to find the right fit for what I wanted to do. Organizational Communication is the department that I ended up in and it was my home for the rest of my years at University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. That leads me to the here and now – and this little blog of mine! I can’t wait for the adventures that this blog takes me on and the learning experiences I encounter. Cheers to blog post # 1 and for many to come! ♥

In honor of the first post, I thought I’d do a little throwback to a party I hosted last summer with an AMERICA theme! I went all-out on the picnic idea and also brought in a little modern spin with some bright succulents & lights!

^^^ the ‘shades’ for these lights were found at my local Goodwill for $6 each! They were originally from Pottery barn and probably a heck of a lot more than what I paid for them! I just added a simple light kit from Home Depot and voila, a cute light! I wish I had known about the Feit original vintage lights back then because that would have really made them pop!

DIY take plastic silverware to the next level for your next picnic party! | Arranged on Essen

^^^ This might have been my favorite part of this party, and it was such an afterthought! I took the leftover twine I had from making the burlap & checkered banner shown in the pictures above and just wrapped it around the plastic silverware with some hot glue! I love how it takes the boring old plastic silverware to the next level! Obviously still not the most fancy thing in the world, but for a picnic themed party, I thought it was pretty great!
