On this day last year, I was soaking in the rigid coastline, and the green, green countryside of the one and only Ireland. It wasn’t until I was able to experience an Irish St. Patrick’s day in Galway, Ireland with my college choir, that I gained a full understanding and appreciation of the country that gives Ireland its character. You wouldn’t believe the country’s unity on this holiday; you could honestly feel the sense of togetherness in the air. This holiday is Ireland. When we arrived in the airport a few days before St. Paddy’s day, it was decked out in shamrocks and Irish flags — like, I’m talking decorated more than we decorate for Christmas. How I wish I could be back in this country everyday, but today especially as the country’s culture explodes, faces are painted green, and flags wave in the air as you can hear the traditional Irish music playing through all of the pubs.
